Welcome to Monkeys In Paris! We are Americans living in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, calling it home for the next three years while we raise our daughter, enjoy Europe and navigate daily life in the capital of France.

Food in the U.S. is extremely cheap. Not only do we live in a country that produces more calories per person than any other on the planet, agriculture is subsidized by the Federal government (read Omnivore's Dilemma for an eye-opener). Americans have no concept of how relatively expensive food is in the rest of the world. The trick is, figure out what are the most affordable goods where you are and modify your menu accordingly. It's all part of the adventure. (grin)
